EA81T Non-A/C Alternator Bracket

Featured Replies

What bracket would I want to use if I removed the A/C compressor from my Turbo wagon? The compressor turns on and makes a really loud howling/screeching sound that doesn't sound pretty, and I just want to remove the A/C components.

Would a standard EA81 Alternator bracket work? or would an EA82 alternator bracket w/o A/C work? I noticed the EA81T has a different bracket setup than non-turbos.

I can't just remove the A/C compressor and run a different sized belt since top bracket for the alternator bolts to the compressor.

just get a new compressor and get it charged with freeze 12 not r-12, napa sells it inviromentally friendly and colder than r12

Compressors cost money, and so does Freeze-12. An alternator bracket would be fairly easy to find in a junkyard. Plenty of DLs with out A/C. Buying a compressor from a junkyard, would be hit or miss if it worked.

You'll most likely have to find a bracket assembly from an EA82 without AC, and *make* it work - I'm not sure the EA81 non-ac bracket will line up with the PS pulley's.... but it might. Sadly the EA82 ones aren't terribly common. Mostly DL's. Very few GL's didn't came without AC, but Loyale's often did, and of course DL's but they are not real common either.

You need the alternator bracket and alternator w/twin groove pulley from a Canadian EA-81T.

Yes, you can retro fit standard 81 bits, the alt mount is the type with fan so first you must remove whatever you have there, (thermo, nothing?), to make room for it to spin. Second, you must change the engine pulley, yes l know it's the double type but what you need is the standard 81 aircon type, (it is a double also), to line up your belts if you intend to run power steering but if not the standard single 81 engine pulley must be used as the offset (as opposed to the turbo), is different.

As you guy's run left hand drive l'm not sure how your power steering mount will be affected so can't speak for this.

And you need the bracket off a hyro lifter engine ('83+ auto, 85+ manual), if i remember correctly....
