random question that i can't find the answer for

Featured Replies

Ok as many of my days consist of now, dreaming of what I can do to my suby, and random questions pop in my mind that I dont know the answer to.

like this one

i hear so much about "spider" intakes. I understand what it is, it the intake used in mpfi ea82 engines, so I know they came on turbo cars but I think they were available on other models without a turbo.

just was wondering what they were and what years they were?

I'm not looking to do a swap so I dont need technical advice, just curious what they came on unturboed. I'm just one of those guys that just likes to know random weird crap like that.

MPFI non-turbo XT's had them. That's the only source actually.

What are you planning to put it on? You realize that they only fit the dual intake port heads of the EA82T/MPFI right?

The unicorn, 87.5 Turbo XT had the Turbo Spider Intake. Also, EDM XT Turbos 87.5+ have turbo spider intakes. Mostly because they never got the XT6.

Otherwise, any 88-91 XT 4 cylinder has one. There's actually one or two in the local yards. If I had more money, I was gonna pull one and throw it on Dorothy.

A Single Question: Is a REAL Advantage for the Engine to use a Spider Intake on a Non Turbo Engine, Than the Regular Intake? Or it is Just a Visual Advantage?

How Better Becomes Performance?

There's a hefy performance increase (~10HP?) with the spider intake on MPFI engines. The intake air path is much smoother.

Plus, it does just look cool!

How about on Turbo cars? I've heard other members on here say it's only a 3/5hp gain on those.....
