Her engine wouldn't turn...??

Featured Replies

My 1987 GL wouldn't start this morning...put the key in, radio started, lights went on, engine growled at me! Kept growling...wouldn't purr. I thought maybe it was too cold ealier because she just started up about 15 minutes ago. I just had the valve-cover gaskets replaced, the oil changed, and a tranny-flush (automatic, if needed). Any feedback or advice would be nice. Thanks!!

Bad starter, loose wire, or bad ground would be my first choices. When you try to crank the engine, do the headlights dim at all?

Also do you have spark? (if not the ignitor failed)

The growling sound to me sounds like you dont have a good connnection on your positive terminal. Check for corrosion first. Then have a friend get in the car if the corrosion thing doesn't work and try to start it by wiggling the positive around and hope that you get a good connection.

... Check for corrosion first ...

Its Good Idea!, also it can be on the Main Links, those are located in a small Black Box, near the Battery...

Welcome!

Good Luck! :)

I didn't do anything! When I first bought the car, It kept having problems with the starter...so it was rigged and wired directly from the battery with the guarantee it would start every time instead of "growling" at me with the annoying "ticking". We thought there might be a fuse out. Other than that I really don't know what else to describe about the situation. All I know is she's still kickin'!
