so here i am 100 miles from home[at my inlaws]and my dist.is jumpimg all over beond 3000rmp's its a 86 1800 overhead cam ,,,carberated 4 dr.4x4.in the past if any, ea81 dist did that i just oiled the dist bearings and bam its fixed.so i oiled mine and its still jumping around and craping out in higher rpms.any ideas? i'm having my daughter bring down a different distributor just as a stab in the dark.any thoughts would be cool.thanks, todd the old guy:confused:

First thing that comes to my mind is bushings but I am having a stab it cause its hard to understand your overall message syntax.

Yup, pick out a good used one of find a machine shop to re-bush it. I did my EA-81 and it worked nice.

i checked for play by trying to rock the shaft around,it seemed good.could this still be messed up even though the bushings seem ok? todd thanks guys!

It doesn't take much, and without removing the distributor it's unlikely you would be able to feel the play as the shaft is engaging the cam drive gear, and isn't free to flop about like it would if you removed it from the engine. 1/32" is more than enough to cause a lot of problems.

Yes they are interchangable. The bit you are refering to as a "vent" is not. It's a retard port for the feedback carb equipped EA82's. Leave it open (not capped) and just use the inner port as that one is the advance.
