1995 legacy, but a 1996+ style one.

my park brake is shot. i've adjusted the hell out of mine with the "star" thing inside the drum. no workie. hack-jobed up the cable to pull reallly really hard, still no work. well it "works" but not good at all.

i'm assuming the shoes are junk; and if so what are they called because i havent been able to find them online anywhere. maybe someone could tell me a good online source, or anything in general? if the shoes arent junk and im overlooking something, that would be cool to know too. i need to satisfy theese wacky inspection guys who like to drop the car in gear and throttle up to test the brake.

ok im confused.

Where did you make this adjustment?

you know inside side of the park brake drum, you pop out that rubber plug and turn that star thing with a screwdriver?

ok lets back up a bit, do you have rear drums or discs?

OE shoes from the dealer. Hand ajusting the star thing is an approximate adjustment, further adjustment occurs when you brake while in reverse. Is the cable adjusted correctly at the hand lever? 8 clicks approx? Wacky is right.

ok another question, does the handle pull all the way up with no affect on the brakes at all?

You may be adjusting it in the wrong place. If this is a rear drum, you can cause the shoes to drag by over adjusting the service brakes.

There is the cable adjustment that really should be done if the car brakes properly.

ummmm yes if i pull on the handle i can feel the tension, probably no more than 8 clicks.

rear disk brakes.park brake is drum...im sure you knew that though.

i didnt know about braking in reverse, you'll have to explain?

do the cables under th car move when somone pulls the handle. Can be that the cables are forzen from lack of use.

going backwatds works when you have self adjusters, which i dont think the parking brake does.

the cables definately work as the brake "kinda" works...it just doesnt work that well. i know it should hold much better than it does.

The cables can be stretched out. Either way your going to have to pull the rear discs and make sure everything works. Something can be frozen.

Removed this post after rereading and seeing where you said rear brakes are disc.

Removed for same reason as above, I thought we were taking drums and shoes, but after rereading I see it is rear disc. (Sorry)
