Clunk in Outback

Featured Replies

My 2000 Outback has a clunking sound coming mainly front the passenger side front end when going over even a slight bump .When I worked at a Chrysler store this was generally caused by worn out sway bar bushing. What do you think?

clunk in the rear of my 97 OBW was a bad strut.

Seems like a lot of folks have complained about Ouback clunks. You might do a search on it.

can be a strut, a bushing, a loose steering rack...

nipper

Do a Search. There is a clunk from the steering hydraulics AND a SOA fix that provides for a a dampering of the fluid to prevent the knock. This may be what you are experiencing but mine was noticeable from day 1. Is this car "new" to you?

Is the front sway bar intact? The '00obw's like to crack 'em at the LH (driver's) bushing. When this happened on mine, I was getting a clunking because the busted end of the sway bar was flopping around and on turns it was hitting the inside of the tire.
