Get tranny out of an 85-87 gl and install it with the center console as well(wrecking yard)

HI Spike, I also have a Subaru '91 Loyale SW 4WD AT and it needs (perhaps) a head gasket as it overheats now and smokes a huge white plume from the tail pipe. I am thinking of selling it or fixing it (?) Any suggestions (maybe parting it out) Linda
July 24, 200817 yr Loyales are Old Generation forum. i love easy questions - remove transmission, install dual range transmission. if you want it to look good you'll need a center console to match the levers. any EA82 dual range will bolt right up. if you get the transmission from a turbo car you'll just need to get the front axles as well since they're a different spline count.

He should avoid those trannies. in addition to the spline count difference, they have a *short* low range (1.19 vs. 1.59) and are 3.7 final gearing. To use one of these, he'd need turbo axles, and a 3.7 rear end.
