November 24, 200322 yr Ok gang, need a little advice/help. I bought a "loud" cherrybomb type muffler to install on my Legacy. The problem is, I found out that Michigan is a hearing-sensitive state In any case, I'm going to do a double-whammy here. First off, does anyone know a good online source for OEM Soob parts, other than 1stsubaruparts.com? The second part is, is anyone interested in a "free-flow" muffler, 2.5" inlet, twin pipe outlet? I will put a post on the marketplace with more info. Anyway, any info you guys and gals can provide would be Thanks! PS, Josh, Shawn, please don't move this to Marketplace, I am posting there right now
November 25, 200322 yr I would just get a Midas muffler or similar. I don't really think an OEM muffler would be worth the price...
November 25, 200322 yr What exactly does the regulation regarding this say? Are you required to run the stock muffler, or is it based on decibel output? If it's the second one, then I'm sure you could find a muffler that flows a lot better than stock without being loud. And if you are required to have a stock muffler, then you could cut the muffler in half, take out the baffles, weld in a straight pipe inside the muffler, and then weld it back shut. That way, it would still be a stock muffler, well sort of.
November 25, 200322 yr I have a stock WRX muffler to put on when I get some more money, I'll let you know how that goes.
November 25, 200322 yr Author HOLD it. You can put a WRX muffler on a Legacy? I'm assuming you would have to have it welded, or does it just bolt on? That's what I'm really looking for. A new muffler that simply bolts on, so I don't have midas shoe-horning a one-size-fits-all into the tail of my Sube. (though I was going to have a muffler shop do that :-p ) Thanks for the info so far!
November 25, 200322 yr To fit a WRX or GC body style impreza muffler on, it will require some welding and tweaking. A "good" muffler shop should be able to make it fit perfect.....however the guy who did mine was tool.....so the fit isn't perfect. more info & pics here http://www.bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=640&highlight=impreza+muffler
November 25, 200322 yr Originally posted by subyluvr2212 I would just get a Midas muffler or similar. I don't really think an OEM muffler would be worth the price... I would actually not go to a chain muffler shop. 90% of the time they will only install a cheap generic muffler that will hurt your cars performance. Find a small exhaust specialty shop and talk to them. You could also just go to Pep Boys and get a nice flowmaster and install it. Flowmasters sound really nice and if you get the right series of muffler they aren't that loud. Keith
November 25, 200322 yr Author I am inclined to agree with Keith, I really don't like chain stores when it comes to my car. I always change my own oil and my own brakes. In any case, I will look into the flowmaster mufflers, Keith. Thanks again to everyone who replied, I really enjoy posting here and getting advice back!!!
November 29, 200322 yr I have a good Muffler and pipe you can have for $20 + shipping charges. I'm in Colorado. Its off a 92 Legacy Wagon, should bolt right up. Good condition Lmdew@hotmail.com
