Subies in North Carolina...?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, as I mentioned in my other thread, I have moved again not too long ago. I'm now in Wilmington, NC and curious to know if anyone on these boards lives in this town.

Also, I'd love to know a good mechanic in my area too, which I still haven't found. I've heard about many shops in this town that are not good, but not any that are good.

I would think, that with the beach here and all, there would be more Subarus (on account of 4WD and all). But I don't see all that many.

they tend to rust to dirt around here. yes there's worse places for subarus, but there are definitely better.

Yes, I know, it's a rather wet climate. Not entirely pleased about that, to be sure.

I've seen a couple here and there on the road, but nothing like what I used to see back in Montana :D. They were all over the place. Even had a Subaru only mechanic in my town. Now, I can't even find just a good mechanic in general.

And since we now live in an apartment building with on-street parking, doing work myself has become much less convenient.

Btw, L2.7T, I very much like your yellow Sube :D. Looks great. Wish I had a paint job like that!

Oh, Thank You! :)

I´ve Painted both my Wagons by myself! :Dwith Just a Li´l Help.

How did you paint them? Did you have access to a shop, use a gun, or cans? I'm curious.

Btw folks, still looking for somebody in Wilmington. Come on, I know there's gotta be somebody out there!

Not mant older subarus around here in North Carolina. I rarely see any 4wd cars around and just a hand full of 2wd cars. I can say that I have the dirtiest subaru around Ashboro though.

Around here I do see a lot of 4WD cars, but mostly just Jeeps and trucks. A lot of people like to drive out on to the designated areas on the beach. And since Subes I think would do well with that, I was hoping there'd be more of them as a result.

Guess not though :P. Probably more of them up in Asheville and thereabouts.

Out west in the mountains there are a few running around. There are plenty of 4wds running around here, just not many older 4wd subarus. And yes, they do great out on the beach.

Hey, where is Ashboro anyway? I tried to find it on Google maps, but it didn't come up.

Asheboro is in Ranolph County, about 30 miles south of greensboro. I forgot how the spell. There is a E in AshEboro. Trey to google it now with the correct spelling.

Ah, well, that makes more sense :P. I knew there was an Asheboro somewhere and I didn't know why Google was having issues with it :P.

  • Author

Oh? I'm sorry if that was a joke, but I didn't get it :P. Unless you were just being informative, in which case nevermind .

Sorry for reviving this old thread, but I thought I'd try again and see if any new folks have popped up from the Wilmington area ^_^.

Nope, not many old gen subies in the Carolinas. Like you said, a few of us here near the mountains.

They are fun to drive on the beach, though (I took mine north of Corolla once and it was a blast).

Mentis - I'm in Apex, which is about an hour closer to you than Asheboro (near Raleigh and Chapel Hill). I don't know anyone around me with an older Sub.

I rally-x mine with this club http://thscc.com/. We're the only 80s model Sub at the races. There is one older Legacy, but everyone else has Imprezas or WRXs. They just had an event in Rocky Mount yesterday, but my car's co-owner was sick, so we didn't go.

If I go off-roading, I drive my Samurai or Blazer. Hey mudduck - do you take your Sub to Uwharrie National Forest? I'd like to take my Samurai wheeling with some Subs.

I do a little bit of wheeling down in Uwharrie. It don't do to bad for single range and sitting stock. I have run about all the trails down there with it except daniel. It sure turns heads out on the trail around these parts.
