weird clutch problem.

Featured Replies

I bought a new clutch cable from the dealer and I installed it.

It's doing something really weird. I tried adjusting and it was a bit hard to engage. So I tightened it and now the clutch it working in reverse

Basically when I let go of the clutch cable, the clutch slips, so the cable it too tight. When I depress the pedal, the clutch fully engages.

I am going back to loosen the clutch cable but anyone know what is going on?

Are you sure you put it in the right spot -- if you somehow put it where the hillholder cable is supposed to go, it'll work in reverse like that.

Or, just learn to drive it that way  When people ask to borrow the car you can say... you think know how to drive a manual eh,,,, not this one :dead:

so I performed a trannyectomy yesterday.

The cause of the problem was that two of the springs in the clutch disc had broken free and got lodged in between the pressure plate surface and the top of the pressure plate casing.

So as the pressure plate was not able to fully compress and reduce pressure on the clutch. Not sure what caused this damage.

Age. Dropping the clutch at high rpms.

Its not an uncommon thing to happen on clutch discs, along with the pressure plate fingers breaking. Sometimes stuff happens.

Somehow my brain registered that as the springs in the pressure plate. In which case I would say as a result of not tightening the bolts correctly.

With any pressure plate tighten each bolt only a small amount and follow the tourquing sequence. You can only go a few turns at a time on each bolt. Do this constantly and consistently until finally tight enough to pull out the tourque wrench for final tighten. None of the springs in the pressure plate want or should be any tighter than any other spring at any given time. This will ensure maximum longevity.

Broken disc springs?

LEADFOOT!
