ARGH!! Another Problem Please help

Featured Replies

I was driving on the freeway going about 60, and the car started shaking really bad... I pulled off the wheel and the outer tie rod looks like it seperated from the boot... and had a lot of shiny looking parts... The part of the tierod that bolts to the wheel assembly looks like its coming apart...

Opinions needed, Is this the cause of my shaking??

Sounds pretty likely... most of that stuff should either look right or wrong, and it sounds "wrongish" if you ask me

Pics Please! ... Maybe it can Help to know exactly how it is and how it should be.

Replaced the tie rod.. and was fine.. and it was fine then after going up the steep end of 180th it started doing it again..

The Department of Justice has failed me plenty of times

Yeah, I'd check the axle... before it blows

Also, check your hubs, make sure the splines still fit nice and snug in the hub. I've had one time where the axle and hub's splines were stripped out due to... i dont know.

Had the same shaking... the time the axle and hub stripped, and also when I had the DOJ fail.

The hatch does the same thing to me. It gets pretty bad at highway speed. But since 90% of my driving is under 40 I haven't replaced my almost dead axles yet.

on the advice of this board and Superior Subaru!! I think I repaired it. I only drove like 4 miles on it but I think I got it... I pulled drivers Axle and pulled it apart Cleaned it turned the inner bearing apart and put the balls back in and greesed it up and put it back in.

I made it work this after noon.. Hopefully its fixed. (at least until I can get a new car) or afford a new axle. My trip home is Up one of the steepest hills in town and it usually does it on the hill and it didn't do it tonight!!
