August 1, 200718 yr Its not necessary to remove the windshield. It makes it easier but not required. You will need to get one of those 90deg angled phillips screwdrivers, or a 1/4 drive rachet with a short bit on a 1/4 socket. Whatever you use, be careful. You can crack the windshiled if you get to aggressive with a tool and smack the glass.
August 1, 200718 yr In the ones I've pulled the dash from, I've popped out the vent covers and used a box end 10mm wrench to get those three bolts out. It is tedius work. But it beats the snot out of taking out the windshield.
August 1, 200718 yr Speaking of removal - if you want to remove just the front plastic bezel piece on an 86 XT, is that as equal of a pain in the butt too?

The trim piece around the radio and inst panel? Yeah, its a pain. You need to remove the little rectangular piece of plastic next to the clock/trip computer. Theres a screw in there, remove it. You practically need to remove the radio and eq to remove the piece. I think theres two screws on the very bottom under the radio that holds the trim. I think the rest of it, around the panel, just snaps in. But its usually really brittle, so be easy with it.

Been awhile, memory is a bit fuzzy.
August 1, 200718 yr I'm not too worried about breaking the piece, as I have a replacement I'm planning on putting in (the current one is cracked/broken anyway). I'll check around for those screws you mentioned, since they're probably pretty-well camouflaged. I guess when those engineers were working on making everything aesthetically tight, they forgot "easy access".
August 1, 200718 yr Hi Robby This is Jerry, sunday will be ok with me because on saturday is the old car show thats where i will be. You can look at that dash ans see if you want to trade me something for it. Thanks Jerry
