brat cams better?

Featured Replies

is it understood knowledge that brats have better cams than other ea81s? or is that another unprooved usmb myth?

Apparently that's true. They are supposed to have more of a torque grind to them.

CCR will put them in for you..... must be some difference I would think.

You know my 83 FSM only shows 2 cams one for subarus with manual transmission and another for subarus with automatic transmissions.

Emily at CCR sez that Brat cams are biased toward torque, 2WD cams toward HP, and 4WD hatch and wagon cams are in the middle; probably the best all-around cam. Just depends on your intended usage.

chef tim has a ccr engine w/ a brat cam. get in touch with him and see what's the skinny. i asked him a while back, but it wasn't in the car yet.

Best bet is to take a Brat cam, and have it ground for torque, and deck the heads to match. Then you will have a torque monster.

The 2WD cam would explain why my lifted wagon (formerly 2WD) has mucho cojones on the freeway - that and it's '82 4 speed. That thing fly's down the strip.

I downloaded the parts manual from the recent posting by Josh. It is only for 1982. It only lists one cam for all EA81s but Emily knows her stuffing so I would not doubt her.

But I did find this little ditty on early EA81 valves, that I don't believe I've read here before.

Sorry if it's a reprint
