85 EA82 will it run without the computer???

Featured Replies

I have a 85 EA82 wagon, can I make it run without the computer? thinking about a simple offroader without all the wires , will the disty work without all the wires??

I think it would be plenty possible since airplane guys with kitplanes build stuff with ea81's and not much else,so I don't see why not. I would see what they have done (haven't looked really in depth my self) and then go off of that for starters.

feedback carbs will run......but insanely rich. when I first got my '85, I was working on it, and accidently blew the 'engine' fuse (which supplies power to the ECU), and it could barely move, and got about 8 mpg.

you might be able to compensate for it somehow.....or swap to a weber and get it to work well.

so the distributer is OK without it?

yea, I'm not sure if the ign advance is electric or vacuum though....

but it will run, I drove mine to school and work for the better part of a week like that.

The fuel pump will not have power but assuming you fix that, it will run. Low on power, and rich. The distributor is not ECU controlled on the feedback carbs. My 86 Sedan is Webered but I left the ECU so I didn't have to rewire the fuel pump.... and it retains the pump shutoff in case of accident.

huh, I did nothing about the fuel pump.....it 'worked'

My 86 GL 3-door had no computor. It was a carb, and it wasn't a feedback one. The bracket for the computer was there, but the wiring wasn't. It ran great.

of course it did, like you said, wasn't a feedback carb, and wasn't designed to have a computer.

my buddies '86 wagon isn't, and it run's awesome. my '85 ran like crap.....all the time.
