December 5, 200322 yr what do i need to rip apart to replace my clutch? easiest way to do this? i haven't taken a good look yet but i figure i'll get a heads up before i have to get down to business.
December 5, 200322 yr It depends on what way your going to do it.. Are you going to pull the motor, or drop the tranny?
December 5, 200322 yr i've always pulled the motor. less time for me, and less hassle, plus you have a loot more room to work on the clutch. a lot less awkward angles too. but mine also has most of the emissions removed. even with emssions hose i still pulled he engine.
December 5, 200322 yr Author i've never pulled the engine before. i have an ea82 spfi. i just want to drop the tranny or do whatever is easiest.
December 5, 200322 yr I also find it easier to do by pulling the motor. tansmissions are heavy.. fighting with gravity sucks.. its easier to pull the motor with a cherry picker.
December 5, 200322 yr Author so pull the motor and leave the tranny bolted in? i don't have a cherry picker, but i read somewhere that the engine weighs less than 200 lbs. maybe i could get another hand or two and just lift the bastard out.
December 5, 200322 yr Hi there! I dropped my tranny when I did mine. On four blocks, in the driveway...took me a weekend. Course, I didn't have ALL the tools right at my fingertips AND the real reason I dropped the trans was to replace it with the D/R, and I was doing both cv shafts anyway. I've never pulled a Sube engine, so I don't personally know how hard it is, but I've been told its easier to go that route than to drop the tranny. Be sure of your torque values, ESPECIALLY on the pressureplate, and do everything you can while you're in there...of course you'd think that was common sense, but you'd be amazed at how many ppl have said to me that "well, I didn't change the pilot bearing cause it didn't need it at the time...":cornfuzz: My $0.02 Good Luck!
