August 19, 200718 yr I know its been discussed a million times before But what about 23 or 26" Ag lug tires?Rather than ATV tires.Normally you would have to have a 12" rim made. But what about these? http://cgi.ebay.com/2-12x7-Rim-fits-Kubota-Kioti-other-Compact-Tractors_W0QQitemZ230140700769QQihZ013QQcategoryZ82249QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem In the ad it even says you can modify the rims because they have a FLAT 1/4" center. Now the only question is will 12" wheels fit on the stock brakes? if so for 40 bucks for the rim and 50-75 for the tire you would have the ultimate offroad tire and you could keep your gearing and not have to lift your car(depends on tire size...) plus there is also "Blems" rims that are only 20... Im almost wanting to get a REALLY GOOD subaru Ea81...
August 19, 200718 yr Now the only question is will 12" wheels fit on the stock brakes? no, there's only like 1/4" between the caliper and the rim...and I think about the same on the tie rod end.
August 19, 200718 yr so how is sweet82 running them? EA81 = smaller front brakes I don't know how easily EA81 stuff could be put on there.
August 20, 200718 yr I would do it , I ran them on a 2wd metro with good results,if interested I could look at my 12" rims and see if they would work, they are rough at high speeds on solid ground but other then that a great tire and good price
August 20, 200718 yr I would talk to Sweet82 if you want to go the 12" wheel route, but as he has said it's neither cheap or easy. He runs 8.5" wide custom made wheels, and the biggest baddest 6 ply 12" dirtdevil tires he could find that are 12" wide. You might look into some 14" AG tires, I just got a new catalog from Carlisle and there are even 15" AG tires, along with some 14" ATV tires, I highly recommend the 14" route with nissal 2x4 wheels, the off-set is ideal for minimal fender trimming/wheel well bashing if you stay with a 26" tire, and you will keep most of your low range pleanty for that EA81 to handle. There is also a Skid Steer tire they make called Trac Chief that is 23 or 25 x 8.50 - 14 that has a very high load capacity rating and 4-6 ply that would also suite your needs. Found some of the 14" for $46! looks like a deal. http://www.nebraskatire.com/industrial.htm
August 20, 200718 yr Author oh that 25X8.5X14 seems pretty good. How wide are nissan rims? wait arnt skid steer tires really heavy. Ive also heard that they dont self clean very well?

The Nissan wheels are 6" wide, these skind steer tires are normally on 7" wide rims, and the weight of the 6 ply is little more than my ATV tires at 26.7 lbs. As for their performance, I haven't a clue.
August 20, 200718 yr Author I know those ag lug tires are fairly light and have a large tread void ratio.both are definatly tires to swap out at the offroad area..
August 20, 200718 yr Sorry I'm not around much on the weekends. Just saw this thread. You are correct, I'm running 26X12X12 tires on 12" rims and not having any clearance problems with the struts or brakes. There are a handfull of folks running 12" rims on Subies. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=7435&cat=500&perpage=12&sort=3&ppuser=584 The fenders on an EA81 without a lift would be a problem?
August 20, 200718 yr If I can get funding im buying an EA81 with a 3" lift. andys got one ( UNcoolperson)
August 20, 200718 yr The fenders on an EA81 without a lift would be a problem? Well, I guess that depends, if you can make it to the dunes and back with out turning, your set. Man, you gotta stop posting those links! I can't help but drool over Summer every time you do even tho I have seen it a hundred times already . Where do you have the winch on the front tho? I see the one on the back, but none on the front? I have one on the front and not on the rear. I really should figure out how to make it switch to the back easier or just buy annother cheap HF/Walmart ATV winch.
August 20, 200718 yr No winch up front...yet... I made space for the Harbor Freight #8000 winch but then decided that was overkill and put the little #2000 ATV winch back there, with a pulley. The front was modified to allow a better angle of approach but that left very little room for even a small winch up front. I figure it's better to be pulled out of a problem than pulled into one? I wanted to make a portable winch on a receiver that could be mounted on the sides, front or rear but have not done that...yet? I have heard of some Rock Crawlers mounting one winch in the center and using it in all directions? I don't know how they are making that work?

I guess if you mounted one on the top of the cage and had pullies to route it where you needed it could work. Did you ever check out that costco winch? I think it was 8 -9k for about $250-300?
