Painting Interior dash and trim??????

Featured Replies

Can the dash and interior pieces be painted and what is a good paint to use?

I know the plastic pieces can be painted but im not sure about the soft dash pieces.

My interior could use some new life to its color.

First... the rules....

There are none.

(out side of pink..... not too many pink intereiors... or Subaru's... yea... I think that's about it... No pink.)

serious side... sorry I don't know, if your concerned possibly visit your auto paint store.. they may have something that will work......

Dupli-color has a new paint out just for soft interior stuff (even seats!)

It even comes with scuff pads to use right after spraying to create "grain"

seen it on powerblock tv. Looked really good !

try their website or "duplicolor garage" a new forum .

I absolutely hate the duplicolor interior paints. I have had nothing but bad luck with them in trying to paint large-ish items like the dashboard. It will do fine for some of the smaller stuff. IMHO and experiance, VHT vinal dye is the way to go. Costs about $8 a can and the results are unmatched from my own eyes.

Never used dupli-color but of course they made it look great on powerblock

(probably a sponser)

Whew, glad I ran across this thread!

I'm about to embark on the interior 'freshen up' project on my 90 Loyale.

Anybody have extra arm rests? The PO put in 'custom wood rests with cup holders' and their STUPID.

I have to agree with psylosyfer. Any produts used/mentioned on TV shows are only used for a reason: sponsorship. Sure, some are actually good but be careful.

I don't have any pictures of the ones I've done personally, sold the car earlier this year. Here is an example of before and after pics of a Brat interior recolor done by a board member.

i'm not sure this is true, but someone told me there was a color code on the back of the plastic trim in a car which you can match to paint/dye color. maybe it's obvious when buying but i don't know

This is true, but if you are changing interior colors then it doesn't need to match factory codes. I'm not 100% sure if there is a specific color code availible for the older subes. But newer models have the code somewhere on the ID tag in the door jamb IIRC.

They dye you would get if you special order will be the same formula as the VHT product. It is not paint, it is true vynal/plastic dye.
