March 8, 200917 yr if you can get a pic of the threads, you might be able to retap them and fix them. Only way you're gonna fix it...
March 8, 200917 yr Author I'm contemplating cutting off the bad first couple of threads (since they are "squished" which made them wide and too narrow to thread through) but it would put it close to the hole that the pin goes through... I already used that procedure with a couple of other spots on the suspension I fubared where clearance wasn't an issue, but with these there is less wiggle room.
March 8, 200917 yr You can always grind the diameter of the damaged section down closer to where it was and then either use a thread file of the correct pitch and do it by hand or use a re-threading die. You should be able to fix them without having to cut any material off. Working with some other techs over the years has improved my skills in damaged thread repair:grin: BTW I have been watching this thread from the beginning and it is looking great. Keep up the details and pics!
March 8, 200917 yr Author Hmm, thread file, I'll have to check that out. Someone mentioned a thread die elsewhere and that seems like an expensive contraption.
March 8, 200917 yr These are the ones I have and they work great. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?item_ID=9693&group_ID=1149 Edited March 9, 200917 yr by XT6 Magic

This one isn`t too pricey.Looks like it has your size.Should be able to buy just one thru a local jobber too. http://cgi.ebay.com/45-PCS-LARGE-TAP-DIE-SET-TUNGSTEN-STEEL-TOOL-METRIC_W0QQitemZ400008597513QQihZ027QQcategoryZ58227QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
March 8, 200917 yr To fix the threads, just file/grind down the mushroomed part and run a die down it to fix the threads.

If nobody at work has a set i can borrow, ill have to pick that up
March 9, 200917 yr Author Oh, on a side note, I've been trying to reassemble my rear brakes today and i've found all the parts I picked up that were supposedly for the FF-1 (rear brake linings, brake cylinder, brake spring kit, etc.) all are wrong I figure its because the suspension is actually a Wagon rear suspension and not a sedan rear suspension, which means all that stuff isn't compatible...

Man that sucks!! So is the right stuff available? Where can you find it?
March 9, 200917 yr Author I just found some wheel cylinders on ebay that look correct. Apparently the ones I bought before were for the front (so I have 4 fronts, no rears). I've found the pins and springs for the brakes now, although one of the springs is not availible anymore, the other still is. However, brake shoes for these rears are non-existent (part number: 625301150 or 625300140)
March 9, 200917 yr These any good? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Brake-Shoe-Set-to-suit-Subaru-FF-Rear_W0QQitemZ280271313693QQihZ018QQcategoryZ42605QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

Nope. And they need to be "wagon" ff-1 rear brakes. The coupes/sedans are wrong.

March 9, 200917 yr find a shop that relines brake pads and have them do it for you specail. its not that bad price wise(i have to do this on my 73 with drums up front) anyway you might look down that road.
March 9, 200917 yr Sorry the Snap-On link didn't work. Here is a picture of it from the site (seems to be working now).

The linings are OK right now thickness wise, but I am concerned about down the road if I ever have to replace them... I'll probably have to go that route (unless someone like moosens has a pair laying around, or I can find some off of a parts car)

If I tried to order them, they will just be canceled (I work at a Subaru parts department FYI)
March 10, 200917 yr Author I got the tie rod threads fixed today My shop foreman had a whole die set, and another tech gave me a hand, got it done nicely However, I did discover one of the front wheel bearings is shot :-\ Luckily I have a spare, and the tools and help to do the job!
March 12, 200917 yr Author Thought you guys might find these photos interesting I found last night on a JDM blog: http://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid/215699/car/105463/profile.aspx yes, those are HID's! He shows how to install them in the blog, lol! those are the SSR wheels I saw recently for sale on the yahoo auctions check out his awesome exhaust setup! LOL! Neon green with funky black painted hood... ...but check out his seat setup, I think i'll do something similar.
March 15, 200917 yr Author Small update: I just rolled the front fenders, repaired a bend on the passenger door (got a set of bodywork hammer/dolly's from Harbor Freight), and reinstalled the brake shoes on one of the rear brakes after rebuilding the original brake cylinders (I have one that needs a stud tapped though since it broke off, I basically re-used the original housing but used the internals from some of the "rebuilt" cylinders I found on ebay). I have decided I need to buy my tires before the end of the month, the sales tax is going up next month here in California! I haven't found a place to repair the wheels yet, it looks like I'll have to go with the expensive "mobile repair" wheel specialist...
