November 10, 200718 yr Just wondering how wide is an EA81 wagon without mirrors or protruding trim?I have an 89 dodge cummins 4x4 pickup. The tailgate almost seems just slightly larger than the width of an EA81.I have seen pics that show that a samurari can fit in the back of my truck. An ea81 vehicle is pretty narrow...So how wide is an EA81 vehicle with out mirrors or other removable bits..my offroad toy is on tractor tires so I can't go over 20 mph with it.I can't use a tow dolly to get it to offroad places, car trailers are expensive. What about putting it in the bed of my truck...
November 10, 200718 yr Author unfortunatly it is an hour away right now so that isnt a great idea...Im going up their monday for a bit of offroading.I just want to see if it will fit.The truck on the other hand I have 65.75" to work with.
November 10, 200718 yr Author I just found out that the wagon is 63.8" so that fits with almost 2" of space. Now I just have to figure out how to fit 14Ft of wagon into an 8ft bed...
November 10, 200718 yr I have a chilton book, Let me see if theres a Dimension section.. Give me a sec...
November 10, 200718 yr Author the wheelbase is 96.3In so just over 8 ft.So I just need to make some sort extension for the wagon to ride on...Anyone happen to how how much the front overhand protrudes in front of the tire?I think I need to visit the offroad forum and see if I can find appoach angle for a stock wagon then do a bit of trig..I will be sure to take some pic of wagon in the bed.
November 10, 200718 yr The tailgate might break with the weight. Is the car street legal? You could put street tires on it. Or use a dolly.
November 10, 200718 yr Yeah IDK? I guess Chilton doesn't have that in there book? So that sounds like a new challenge... 14ft into a 8ft bed?? If you could get a 15ft piece of 2-3" steel sheet and lay that in the bed and then put the rear half of the wagon on that.. But i dunno where you could get a hugh steel sheet? And the price would be outragus! Good luck
November 10, 200718 yr I'd do what Mudduck said, Get a car dolly... You can rent one from U-haul for about $20 or less..

November 10, 200718 yr Steel ramps that are long enough for the front and rear wheels to set on would support the weight of the car. I would remove your tailgate though. Getting it up on the back of the truck might be tricky.
November 11, 200718 yr 15ft piece of 2-3" steel sheet I dont even have a CLUE where to begin estimating the weight of that piece of steel. Not the slightest glimmering of an idea. 2 tons, three? Four or more? If it were plywood it would probably only weigh about 300-500 pounds, but steel is a good bit heavier. You need to think your ideas through a little further before posting them, my friend.

November 12, 200718 yr steel plate 1" thick is 40.84 pounds per square foot. so, roughly 3200 pounds..... PER INCH of thickness then. 6400-9600 pounds, thats 3-5 tons.. close enough. Heck, my guess was much more accurate than I thought it was!! :-p
