November 27, 200718 yr When I turn the AC off and use the heater my car gets a very strong moldy smell. Anyway to clean this up without opening the heater/evaporator? Like some kind of additive added through the air intake (by the windshield).
November 27, 200718 yr I know they make cabin air filters, not sure if this would actually help though. Ever try running the heat on full blast for awhle (with the windows down)? One question out of curiosity sake...Why are you switching from A/C to heat?
November 27, 200718 yr Lysol Spray lysol into the air intake under the hood by the wipers. Have the HVAC on frewsh air and run it thorugh all the modes, do it varying the temp too (cold warm hot). This should get rid of it. Make sure all the car windows are open nipper

November 28, 200718 yr Full heat is kinda useless unless you run the recirculation on the ventilation. The air-con evaporator is upstream of the heater core.
November 28, 200718 yr Autozone sells a can of stuff you spray in the AC sytem (1 shot in each vent, half can into outside intake with fan on high, rest of can into inside air intake with fan on high and AC on recirc) I used it on my wifes car and the stinky odor went away Another thing that might work is Microban, we use it at work if a car has a musty/moldy smell.
November 28, 200718 yr This stuff has sort of gotten like all the chemical heavy "new and improved" hyper expensive sprays that decarbon the engine. All this fancy stuff when plain old water works just as well. For mold, dont bother with the other stuff fropm autozone or anywhere else. Just get lysol or something a kin to it on sale and use that. Thats what has been used since the 1960's, and it still works great. Not picking on you, just tired of newer being better (and usually more expensive). Besides lysol can be found anywhere. nipper
