Gremlins this time of year

Featured Replies

So it seems like every winter, the suby has some hick ups. Currently my car likes to die when I come to a stop when putting the clutch in, but not all the time. It also is hesitating in fourth gear like its not getting fuel sometimes, an then other times runs perfect......

is your Subie Carbed? ... if So, it might be a Stickin` Choke Plate... or Dirty Spark Plugs / Carb, along with bad Gas / Air Mixture. So, I Suggest you to Start by Checkin` those parts.

Good Luck :burnout:

Did the carb clean an check, heeted the gas. Ill probably do new plugs an cap its about the yearly change

I've had two carbed subies that would die when you put the clutch in, but ran great while driving. Turns out they had internal vacuum leaks in the idle circuit of the carbureator, that were starving it when the primary circuit was not open (foot off the gas). I cleaned the carb with carb cleaner, and it just got worse... I cleaned out some important old bit of gasket I think... Might need a new carb :-\

Interesting, I've never heard of that. Wouldn't resealing the carb be an eay solution? IDK, ever since getting my first MPFI soob, i've been on Automotive Atkins........No carbs

The idle is not the problem because most of the time it is perfectly fine.

Yesterday i was driving back from shelton an it was dumping snow and all of a sudden it just had almost no go, seemed like it was getting no fuel, in second gear just lurching, then i got a strong gas smell. Drove further an it went away an then today it runs like a champ...

That sounds like float and/or needle valve issues in the bowl.

Had the same problem on my 87. Turned out to be carb iceing. Make sure that your air heater on the breather is working properly. It took me two winters to figure this out it always seamed like a bad fuel filter or pump but it turned out to be ice build up in the carb.

Alright well for the time being I think the dieing has been solved.

Now on to the next gremlin evil electrical. My clock resets to 1 oclock everytime I turn my car on an also the hatch light comes on with my brights
