Its a subaru specific scanner that is OBDII, PLUS scans the tranny, the ABS, and the air bag system (and what ever other puters are in the car). It has more features then a normal OBD scanner.

Each mfg has thier own OBDII scanner on steriods.

From one of the Porcupine's excellent links

The SSMIII Standalone (Complete) Kit can be ordered through SPX Kent-Moore by using part number J-48621. Price is $2588.00, and includes a software subscription for one year from date of purchase. Note: Prices subject to change without notice.

Thats what the dealers can buy it for.

The rest of us..................$3553:mad:

well with im currently paid i will be able to afford one by the end of the year...

Keep an eye on ebay. I picked up one of the first gen select monitors and a few cartridges for around $300 I think.

But I don't think you'll find too many new select monitors on ebay though....

You only NEED the SMIII for the 08+ (maybe 07+), the SMII will do all the way back to at least the early EFI cars (Pretty sure it'll do carb cars w/ the computer) with the proper cartridge. You would need the brown cartridge, handles 98 and earlier.
