Possessed underhood component: A common part?

Recommended Posts

A few days ago after exiting the highway and slowing to the point that I could hear it, I noticed that this part was clicking and making noise.

You can feel it doing this. It hasn't had an effect on driveability yet. This in on an EA81T, but I was wondering if this part is common on other EA81 vehicles. Common enough that I could just go to the junkyard and get the part or if I have to start looking for a donor turbo car. I've looked at my books, but can't find definitive evidence as to what part that exactly is. This is where you come in. Is it one of the two connectors marked in red? Or maybe the relay looking thing marked in green?

Any help or insight you can provide would be invaluable.

Actually, I believe that relay is from the 3AT. I believe its called the "4WD-AT Checker." That's what it looks like in my 83 FSM.

I remember mine made that clicking noise too. I just yanked it, and it never seemed to have an effect on anything.

I can't seem to find anything in my FSM or supplement that comments on exactly what that part is. Where did you find this evidence?

I would love for it to be for the 3AT (Thats what I first thought it was), but I would like to be sure.

Ed, XTs aren't EA81s... Did they have an EA81T? I'll probably head out there tomorrow morning.
Well, if it isn't an EA81, I stand corrected. However, it said XT turbo on the rear trunk. Looked to me to be the 4 cylinder wedge. It was also a 2WD automatic gearbox.
