Looks like a Pinzgauer 710M.

They are a high mobility military vehical used by Switzerland and Austria.

They have a club here in CO. I see 4-8 of them taking off into the hill here in Teller County every summer.

Those can go places even Jeeps can't.

those wouldn't have a chance, top heavy and limited flex. great ground clearance, great for military invasions and great gearing though.

my local army surplus owner imports these and sells them for 8 to 12000 cdn dollars, when i worked in the oil patch i almost bought one.... they are so sweet. He also imports unimogs, someone here in town has one thats bobbed, flat deck, etc. I almost crapped myself when i saw that thing. :headbang:

Exactly. They're awesome all-terrain vehicles, but they couldn't touch a jeep when it comes to rock crawling!

gary, by the looks of it, they have geared hubs and so the axles are slightly higher than you would expect them to be. They are there, just thicker and higher then on a subaru.

geared hubs, yes. subaru cv's, no. they are called portal axles, fairly sweet invention as far as axles go, generally speaking those types of vehicles are solid axles, but not all.

http://www.portal-tek.com makes some extremely beefed up applications of those style axles for "real-world" offroad use.

Portal axles could be neat on a subaru...just top speed would be halved, but tire size could be doubled or 1.5 if you want some gearing...
