Tune up...how often?

Featured Replies

I was wondering how often everybody here tunes up their Subs? Plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor and air filter. I last changed them all out 2 years ago. Everything is running great, but my mpg isn't the best.

Thanks

check the owners manual, it has all the service mileages in it. you can post in the parts wanted forum here, ebay, etc.

ignition items and air filter check/replace at 30k - 60k

wires - never if you buy Magnecor

is your real concern gas mileage?

what kind of driving, what kind of gas mileage, what kind of soob?

fuel filter, O2 sensor, PCV

Cap, rotor, plugs every year. Wires, no, I am running MSD 8.5mm, they have a good life range. Air and fuel filters as called for in the manual. Never got over 26MPG on the hiway, 23-24 everywhere else.

Depends on the year/model. EA81 solid lifter engines for example, require a valve adjustment every 15,000 miles....

Which I'm due for and going to attack in a couple of weeks... Going on vacation tomorrow so no additional miles on the engine before the adjustment!

Dude every year thats alot of money to pony out every year. Id atleast say every other year. I thought you could get at least 30 thousand out of a tuneup. And from what ive read on here the distributor is something you dont want to mess with unless its broken.

Oh man, getting my car to run right after we took the disty off... Dont get me started... I would change plugs every 15 to 30 if you get the right kind (NGK is the best, even the cheapies) but for things like cap and wires, just check them.

Taking the cap of the disty is safe, no worries there, just check things over and give the roo a good vehicle inspection when you do an oil change or stuff like that! and after writing another lifes story, im out!

The lifters and engine internals... RUN IT TILL IT DIES!! just kidding, I dont know the specifics.
