Could this be the end? Serious issues needing some answers..

Recommended Posts

Where to start... I'm sure that i'm not the only one who notices how ridiculously high gas prices are. Here lies my biggest problem. As many of you know, due to the fact it was because of you guys that i got my xt6 back up and running, the problems i faced with my car. As it stands right now I'm gonna have to retire my xt6 and go back to driving my POS mustang. I'm only getting about 5mpg. No joke. Just for me to drive to work and back home I'm burning up about a 1/8 of a tank.

Here's just a list of everything that has been replaced since October last year when i did a clutch swap. Since the swap, only about 350 mi has been put on the car and new parts.

-OEM PCV valve

-MAF sensor +cleaning

-IAC valve 2x. (Thanks Gary) +cleaning

-O2 sensor

-Spark Plugs

-Cap and Rotor

-Serpentine belt

-OEM Hydraulic lash adjusters

-Fuel injectors

-Fuel Filter

-Castrol Synthetic Oil 10w-30 w/ Fram oil filter

-Exedy High racing clutch

-Wire Harness connector for alternator

I cant seem to understand why I'm getting crappy gas mileage. If anybody has any ideas or has suffered this problem your help would be greatly appreciated.

It wont stay in retirement forever though. I want to completley reman the engine from the block up. This is where i could use some more help. I want to build my xt6 to withstand running at speeds of 110 mph for 100+ mile duration. I know that this will put a lot of stress on the motor for running it this high for this long. Hence the reason why I'm going to rebuild it.

Does anybody know of any internal high performance parts i.e. pistons, rings, crank, cams, ect.

Feel free to speak your mind on the matter. I'd like to hear some imput on it.

High performance parts for the XT6... Are completely custom. No one makes anything for these cars except oem. I am building a twin turbo ER27. I am building the motor to handle more HP then anyone else here reliably, hopefully. No one makes anything aftermarket but you can still get parts custom build for your engine. I have had a bunch of custom work done to my ER. Check out my Hyperbolic ER27TT build thread. Ram-performance, you can get a few things there but they are outrageously expensive, and they only carry parts that are swappable from the EA82. Custom would still be cheaper.

As far as your milage... When you cleaned your MAF sensor, what did you use? There is only one cleaner you can use on them that is specifically for maf's. Anything else will be likely to destroy your maf sensor. just an idea. It could kill your fuel milage.

How long have you been working on that now? ;)

Go to the XT6 site and look up Mr.Radon. He built a ER27 using hi-po parts. He has all the links and products he used, very detailed.

Definatly check the timing and if you did use something other than the suggested MAF cleaner, you could be looking at replacing the unit.

Thanks alot for that. I guess it will save me some trouble in looking. Now I must look into what size everything is and start ordering parts based off of compatable sizes. I'm definatley going to find a company to build me a set of custom cams. The bad thing is I've already got almost $7000 invested in this car. oh well. another $8000 or so would be understandable.

When i cleaned my MAF I used a eletronic component cleaner. No brake cleaner, no carb cleaner, nothing else. I posted before i cleaned it and everybody said to stay away from those. Luckily i still have yet another MAF sitting on the sidelines. I will go throw that one on today.
