Ok, so my 3rd gear is and i'm gonna have to replace the tranny. (86 ea82, 5sp d/r) The problem I had before with it was there was no low end power. I know that is to be expected, but I'm wondering if there is a different ratio i can put in there to give some more torque. I have herd of the 3.9 lsd going into an ea82, but I don't know the details of which tranny will work with it. If i have to choose a lsd over a D/R i'll go with the D/R, just hoping there is a way i can have it both ways.

 

So, i need info, and then the parts to do it! I'm in wenatchee, but i'm gonna make a trip to the coast (seattle) in the middle of april. If anyone has what I need and can make me a deal on it, i'd love to talk.

if you are looking for a D/R 3.7 Trany, i have one. make offer.

 

if you are looking for a 3.9 D/R you can convert your LSD to 3.9 if you find a 3.9 diff, then just swap the carrier.

What you ultimatly want is a RX tranny. Fulltime 4wd with D/R and diff lock. You get to cruise around in 4wd and have the ability to use low range in town. Makes it have much more pep at lower speeds and just drop it into to high when you hit 50mph or so.

Granted the RX box doesn't have the desired 1.59:1 low range but I love having that tranny behind my SPFI motor. Does awesome around town in 4low and when I get on the freeway, pop that sucka into 4hi unless I have to go up a grade, then back into 4low she goes.

Yes.

 

Price is difficult. Both items are rare. Probably:

 

Tranny - $200 to $300

LSD rear - $150 to $200

 

Maybe less if you get lucky at a u-pull yard - you could go for years and not see either though.
