March 30, 200818 yr I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if there is any info regarding matching a subaru eg33 to any rwd trans.I am not looking for bolt on,but simply something that is possible. The engine will be going into a non subaru project car that needs to be rwd.I have read somewhere that a 3rd gen rx7 can be adapted to fit,can anyone confirm or deny this?
April 1, 200818 yr Anything can be adapted to fit with enough R&D. rx7 tranny bellhousing has a similar shape to that of an ej series engine, so it should be close to that of an eg33 as well. There is a lot more work that needs to be done with rwd in a subaru tranny, simpy pulling the front cv's isn't good enough.
April 1, 200818 yr EG33 mates up to Legacy-class transmissions. Any tranny that you can adapt an EJ22 engine to you can also adapt the EG33 (though they may not handle the torque).
April 1, 200818 yr VW bus trannies. There are kits for those. nipper would require mounting the motor in the rear as well.....
April 1, 200818 yr Author Sorry for not enough details. The engine is being planned for insertion into a datsun 280z.The eg33 will be turboed and it will be in the front not the rear.Obviously it will also not be all wheel drive and it will also obviously need to be stronger than a converted subaru 5 speed. The rx7 thing seems pretty promising and i am going to be working on getting an answer. Not sure if anyone will care but i will definitely post the results at some point.
April 2, 200818 yr sounds like an intressting project aye. how much power do you want it to make? keep us up dated. mite like 2 eventually make my svx rwd:burnout:
April 3, 200817 yr i had heard somewhere that a nissan 240sx tranny would work. something about using the bell housing from an auto subby tranny and then making an adapter plate to mount it to the nissan tranny....... but i could be wrong......
