April 6, 200817 yr hey guy's and gal's. newbe here. I'm sure this has been asked before but i can't find it! i've just brought a 1987 brat and have fallen for the wrx conversions that i've been seeing. i am ready to get started straight away. i have to keep using the brat as i mod' it so i'm going fo the brakes and suspension first. Is the anyone out ther who can offer me any advise on lowering the back torsion bar? i intend to fit the wrx struts up front so would like to drop the ride height at the same time. As for the brakes. is there a rear disk conversion avaliable? i keep reading about the xt6 hubs, but i don' think we had the xt6 over this way(norway). So can i use the impreza hubs up front? and is there another option for the rear?? also i don't intend to change the motor and box for a little while, so will i have an issue with the drive shafts if i fit new hubs/brakes? thats it for now. any other advise would be great!
April 6, 200817 yr there aren't any easy answers to your questions. so you're really asking us to write essays on all your possible options. i'd spend some more time searching. this really isn't a simple answer...check out the USRM as well. right now i see the USRM acronym on the screen, top right corner in the blue banner at the top. click on it and read up about 5 lug conversions...and brat information. and most of the experience on this board is EA82 related....brat information, being EA81 is even harder to come by. i know nothing about brats. i don't think XT6 stuff was offered over there either, i've sent at least one...if not two sets of 5 lug conversion stuff to Norway.
April 6, 200817 yr Nothing about what you want is simple. It will require a large amount of custom fabrication. The rear is completely different. The only thing that will fit in 5 lug is the XT6 rear disc brakes. You can clock the torsion bar to lower it. The front is also completely different, and much harder. The axles are shorter than newer gens including the XT6, so custom axles are required to fit any other hub. The ball joints for the XT6 hubs don' fit the control arms either, so those have to be modified. The strut tops are two bolt rather than the later 3 bolt so modifications there are required as well. Basically there is no combination of parts that will bolt on so you might as well just do a full custom install of whatever you can get in Norway for reasonable money. GD
April 6, 200817 yr Author yea i kinda realised that i was asking a bit too much after i posted it. i had a bit of a longer search around and found the Crossbred conversion. http://crossbred.gotdns.com/?cat=12 It seems like a good conversion.i have no problem fabricating my own, but seems like a good price too. The main question i have is about lowering the rear? i have no experience with torsion bar suspension? wasn't asking for any essay's. was having trouble finding any info on the search. got it in the end:)

Front is a challenge in terms of the 5 lug. I used XT6 front hubs w/a EA82 crossmember. Since I had the stock Ea81 tranny I used impreza FWD axles. Even after all of that, my wheels still looked like this \--/. I ended up cutting and welding a 1 inch extension onto the control arms. I over build it like crazy but it's not something I would advocate if this is a daily driver. The rears are a bit of a challenge w/o XT6 hubs. Renaissanceman is working on 4x140-5X100 adapters. Go look in the Old Generation forum for those. good luck with everything PM me if you need more info BW

Hope i'll have it fitted in the next two months. next is to straighten out the body work! i think that'll take some time, there's quite a bit of rust! thanks for the help!
