what would fit?

Featured Replies

what would fit on my '83 gl wagon from a newer wagon? i'm guessing its about an 87 but not really sure. will try to put up a pic tomorrow. just wondering what parts i could put on my wagon from a newer one...thanks

Not much.

If it's got a 5 speed D/R and your's is a 4 speed, then with a few modifications you can install that.

If it's got rear disc brakes those will fit.

Otherwise there really isn't anything that will fit an EA81 without modifications.

how intense would those mods be? i could probably pick up the whole car for under 300$ so would it be worth it to buy the car and just retrofit as i see needed? also how much would a transmission rebuild kit be?

side note: the car runs and drives just fine but he said the P.O. took out the underside of the dash so all the wires are exposed...

With a lift the 5sp is easy. Without lift I believe you need a hammer and then its easy.

Even the auto adjuster rear EA82 drum brakes are a good swap, stop the initial loose pedal problem.

Engine would fit with minimal work if its a carby. But puttin an EA82 in an EA81 body is silly. If anything the EA82 should come out and be replaced with better, like an EA81 ;):-p

Or you can put the EA82 manifold and carby on the EA81 and possibly get a little more power (seen it done and it worked).

If its a carby model small things will swap over with minimal work like fuel pump etc.

Wheels should swap over.

Front brakes won't.

Rear diff will if its the same ratio and if its a 4WD.

Probably more stuff

Front seats will bolt in. Makes for a nice upgrade if you're needing new seats.

I believe there's a how-to in the USRM on installing the EA-82 dome light into the EA-81 body.

you can swap in the ea82 motor itself. you will have to lengthen the coil wires and you can install the battery on the other side to match(if you cut out the jack mount). there will be clearnace around the hill holder, you will have to unbolt it and bend it out the way or remvie it entirely. if you swap an the ea82 its easiest to remove the disty first, install the motor, and then the disty to clear the MC. you may have to cut off one of the tabs to the disty and mount it somewhat off center and then clock the rotor to its proper location. but it can be done, i have done a couple of them myself.

you can have an ea82 motor and tranny

the front struts and axles will not work unless you find a way to swap ove rthe ea82 lower control arms, since the axles are longer, and the lower control arm sits farther back on the ea82 so you will need some fab skills and a good understanding of alignment, but yet agian, it can be done.

but aside from all that complicates suspension conversion, the motor swap is still practical.
