1983 EA-81 turbo

Featured Replies

I have a 1983 EA-81 turbo wagon that hasn't been run since 1999. In 99 it was parked, I don't know why. But it was driven to the spot where it was parked. I have just tried to start it and it will not start . If I pour fuel into the intake it will start right up and run until the gas is gone. I pulled the filter line to injectors off and it squirts gas out over the front of the car. (The gas is rotten) It appears to me that the injectors are not popping, or fireing or injecting or what ever the term is. Question, What tells the injectors to fire? And does anyone have any ideas? Also on the right shock tower there is a place for three relays, but there are only two. It appears the outboard (Brown plug) relay is missing. Is this a clue? I would really like to get this engine running so I can see what the condition is.

Thanks, Carl

I'm pretty sure there are only supposed to be two relays on the strut tower.

As for your injectors, grab an automotive stethiscope and listen to the injectors while the engine is cranking.

These cars tend to have problems with transmissions (The govener gear), ignition parts (Inside the distributor), cracked heads and the occasional bad ECU. The latter would be my next bet for your wagon, followed by the disty.

After class today I will try to look at my troubleshooting guide so we can figure this problem out.

The nasty gas may have varnished the injectors, sticking them closed. I'm not sure on how to remove them for cleaning, but that'd be my 1st step.

I agree about the bad gas. Drain it out or dilute it a lot. Maybe run some Seafoam through the fuel system?

No FSMs up here. I'll have to wait for the weekend for that information.

before doing anything you need fresh gas in there. motors won't start sometimes after only sitting a year or two....and this is 8 year old gas?

How about you get some pictures, I can't seem to get enough EA81T.
