XT6 Rear backplate/caliper mount dimensions please .

Featured Replies

Hi all , I need some information on the differences (dimensionally) between L/XT4 and XT6 rear disc backing plates .

From the manuals the disc rotor diameters are 226 , 256 , 266mm diameter for L/XT4 , XT6 , 1st Gen Legacy .

As I said in the above thread I am exploring the possibilities to see if XT6 type brakes can be made up without their unique components .

BTW I have the Aus reproduced rear hubs .

Cheers A .

well.....I posted up some pretty detailed measurements of the 4-cyl backing plate dimensions. it's the same as that, except the caliper is 15mm (30mm bigger rotor, divided by 2) further away.

So is the XT6 one a modified L/XT4 one or completly different - larger .

Does anyone have pics of the XT6 one ?

Cheers A .

it's almost identical. the dust shield part looks different, but it's essentially the exact same thing as the 4-cyl one, but larger.

and yes, I just happen to have a picture of one of mine from when I did the swap:

Thanks for that , you wouldn't have a pic of the other side would you ?

Cheers A .

no, I don't. and I'm not sure when I'll have it apart enough to take one.

Thank you anyway , am looking to buy some over there and have them sent to me in Australia .

Cheers Adrian .

I have some backing plates in my garage. 99% sure they are xt6 ones i took off my last car.

I'd be happy to sell them and ship them provided we can figure out a way to know for sure they are xt6 ones.

Yes that would be fantastic if they are .

I reckon the way to tell would be to measure the inside of the dust cover section as XT6 disc rotors are supposed to measure 256mm diameter where L series and XT4 are 226mm . If the overall diameter of the XT6 plate is known I suppose that would be a good reference as well .

Fingers crossed , cheers Adrian .

i can measure mine for you. it's on the car, but i can take any external measurements of it that you want/need. just let me know, i need to swap my snow tires off of it anyway and will be doing so soon, easy access to measurements for you.

just get me exact details of what you want measured.

I've just measured up a beat up XT4 backplate and is approximately like this .

Overall diameter ~ 30cm .

The gap between the plates large middle hole and the half round section between the calipers mounting bolt holes 31.4mm .

The direct as in shortest distance between the caliper mount holes and the plates large middle hole - 48.8mm .

I expect the XT6 plates to be something like 20+mm larger overall and the other measurements approx 10+mm greater .

Cheers Adrian .

Subarutex , from the pic above and FSM's the XT6 ones seem to have a rolled lip on the outer edge facing outwards towards the disc rotor where the XT4 and L series ones are laid back at their outer edge (like a big shallow cone) towards the diff side (inner side) .

Also the stiffening "troughs" pressed into the outer stone guard section of the plate seem a lot deeper on XT6's than the 4 cylinder ones which are very shallow

I think these may be the way to tell the difference at a glance .

Can you let me know which you have please and do you use Paypal ?

Someone I know here gets bits sent in from the US for his V8 Dodge so should not be too difficult .

Cheers and thanks , Adrian .

look what I found! pics of the backing plates right after I sand blasted them!
