what kind of turbos did ea82Ts have stock

Featured Replies

was it a IHI VF? is that a normal subi turbo? or is it something special? i really dont have a clue just curious. thats what mine says on the compressor housing

IHI made a lot of the turbos in cheaper 80s/90s turbo cars.

From the early 80s 1.6liter Escort turbo, on up till the 90s mazda 323 turbos.

(I think the newer WRXs and such use Mitsubishi units, ironic huh?)

I happen to have a 323 turbo thats shot

an 83? escort IHI that's shot

and a really good condition Ea82T turbo.

all of them are IHI and none of them look alike at all.

(and I bought the 323 turbo for kicks for 45 bucks at a you pull with the manifold attached sold the manifold for 100 bucks shipped! :headbang: )

thats the norm on ea82Ts from what ive seen on mine and my couple soob buds have... IHI VF7. they make a rebuild kit for it, bushings all that. i believe. they around if you look in the right places... as in the previous post turbos are good to have lying around.

um SS do you need a good turbo?? I'd be happy to mail you this one I have for shipping (fits in a flat rate box) Spare?

just wonderin if it was "special"

Oh they are special alright........Special Ed.!!!!

In all seriousness, they are okay little turbos, just not made for big power numbers. Heck, not even made for mild power numbers. But I think that the engine durability has a little to do with the low power numbers as well.

I think the only year the 323 GTX came to the U.S. was 1988. GTX (awd turbo) I had one several years ago, but the details are cloudy. The turbo was good, it's just that the motor leaked bad, it ran hot, and finding parts was very hard.

Here's a photo. (just so you know the stipe was already painted on when I got it.)
