legacy stereo into loyale

Featured Replies

anyone done it? we have many stock cd player stereo's from legacy's at work and i wanted to see if it will go in.

Thanks,

Shean

Problem you will run into is the depth of the radio. Used a radio from a 3000GT (Mitsubishi) in my old Loyale for several years but had to find "spacers" to mount it. just can't flush mount just about any factory radio because whatever you use will hit the duct work in the dash.

the good news is that subaru kept the same wiring plug from the loyale into the new millennium... you should be able to just plug it right in...

I think the only problem I had in my '85 was that I needed to find an always-hot lead to keep the station presets... and you really should rewire the rear speakers to eliminate the common ground issue...

you'll also need a faceplate adapter to bring the unit out a half inch or so in order for it to clear the duct work like john in KY said...

but I've moved stereos from an '85 and '88 loyale into a '97 imp, '00 legy, and '00 forester without having to do any wiring...

I put an 05 Impreza CD / Tape / Radio into my 94 Legacy. Yes had to do a bit of rewiring. And yes, depth of the stereo compartment in the Loyale will be an issue.

I had a 98 or so OBS tape deck in my 87 GL.... I just made an adapter harness to go between the deck and the factory car wiring. I clipped the illumination wire because the deck would go dark when I turned on the headlights. With it clipped the display would always be lit, but the buttons wouldnt.

I just wrapped electrical tape around the part of the deck that stuck out. Looked good enough.
