78 Brat paintin' & detailin' questions

Featured Replies

My 78 is still at the body shop

long story longer.. shop had to move... ran out of cash........

Anywayz

I want to know if the rub strip down the side at waste level

I guess to prevent door dings ect. is factory

Should I leave it (it's pop rivoted on) or remove it?

Should I get the low rider "Gem Top" pained or not waste

the money.

I've seen gen II "Brat" decals but are ther good gen I sets

available yet?

Thanks for the help and suggs, diggin' getting into gen 1.

Leave the Legacys and OhBee's behind.

What kind of shape is the strip in? Removing it would entail drilling out rivets and filling holes. But if the strip can be repainted, I would keep it.

Does the topper match the new paint? Wouldnt take to much more paint to shoot that also.

There was someone on the Board besides Mick that was doing Brat decals. Not sure if he was doing Gen 1 or not. I'll do a search and see what I come up with.

Thanks for the reply, Rob, the Poop link is great!!

I will be using him.

The strip is in this picture

I'm missing the small section for the pass front fender

Think may make my mind up, as finding

this material may prove impossible

The cap can be painted to match but the cost and

if I would ever use it is the question

Very nice and deceivingly solid Brat for this neck of the woods. I had never seen one in this old body style. I like it.

Looking forward to seeing what it looks like when complete.

Hi Skip!

I would paint it, if it were fiberglas, the Gem Top not so much. But then again, it would be a good accessory if you decided to ever sell.

thanks again for the replies

I found the "Lets see those Brats" post

and the strip appears on many Gen 1's making

me think it was a dealer option.

Just need the small part for the pass front fender.

I have the fiberglass "hi topper" but like

the look of the low rider.

The carpet in the bead is so nice I may keep the cap on.

thanks again for the replies

From what I understand from Todd, those strips were put on stateside and no two cars are alike in positioning. I agree about the low topper, I had a fiberglas one on mine back in the day.

i have those. both sides, riveted on. nice shape, no fading. you're on the other side of the country tho. you should be able to find something closer. i'd send you the cat, but you can find those EVERYWHERE!

Personally, I think they look way better without the little strips, both my brats had them, but one went all the way to the front of the fender, and the other was like yours. Also, one was screwed on, the other riveted.

Before, with trim and crappy body parts:

and after trim removed:
