low beam/ daytime running light wont work

Featured Replies

My friend has a 2001 legacy outback. The low beam on the drivers side is out along with the daytime running light. I replaced the bulb and it still wouldnt work. I put the bulb that came out in the passengers side and it was blown.

I put the known good one from the passengers side into the drivers side and it still didnt work. I checked all the headlight related fuses and they are all good.

If anyone has any ideas on what I should check next...........

What should the voltage be going to the small bulb?

I jjust fixed the low beam on my Legay...the pins inide the connector were a little "sprung" so carefully bent them to grip the bulb prongs tighter, and used some contact spray cleaner on them...works fine now

Voltage to all the lights should always be 12 volts except in the DRL mode and there is a dropping resistor in the circuit to reduce the current of the light circuit.

The most likely problem is the socket is bad due to burned contacts.

I've had an issue where one of the tabs didn't get seated into the plug well and that caused a light to be out... so if you're getting voltage to it make sure it's lining up right...

+1 Definitely check the sockets!

Well, the guy that owns thw car took it to the dealership and they changed the bulb and it works. I dont understand??????

Yes I have had issues on '00obw with the little tabs for the bulbs not mkaing good contact (making me think bulb was blown but it wasn't).

DRL on that era is high beam bulb run at reduced intensity (via PWM pulse width modulation at the DRL module. PWM is also the modulation method the TCU uses for the auto trans solenoids).
