I am building an EA82T with the carbed bottom end and the turbo heads shaved .010, so i'm wondering should I keep the turbo '87 cams or run the na '85 cams? any input will help. thanks.

 

carb cams are from '85 code is no groove 3-51-47-7

trubo cams are from '87 code is one groove 14-56-56-14

 

the '85 cams are same for turbo and carb

 

I want more torque! will be used for pulling trailer, going up hill, low speed trails. Buying cams is not currently in the budget.

I had an engine rebuilt for my '84 Brat with the Delta cams in it, but it wasn't a turbo.

How big of a trailer ? Its still only a 1.8, it has 111hp and 134lbs of tq, even if that was up to 130hp and 150ft lbs that doesnt leave a whole lot of extra.

 

I would say use the turbo cam still, I believe it holds the intake open longer because the intake is under pressure you will get better cylinder filling & more power.

I have been pulling it with a diesel vw jetta with less than 50hp, loadede with a mass of approx. 750lbs. in the form of a 48" cut ariens zoom ztr mower!

this winter the trailer will be loaded with a deere 111h lawntractor with snowblower

my skiwagon with ea71, and occasionally slipping clutch - especially on fast acceleration, seemed to handle pulling the loaded trailaer fine.

yes, for '85 the cams were the same for turbo and carb

They may use the same stick but I doubt the profile is the same. I don't really care what the manual says about the cams. I need to see the actual readout from a cam analyzer to show true duration and lobe rise.

 

True that the weber won't work on your turbo. However, a weber will generate more low end power than your weber and be a whole bunch more reliable!

 

If you are unable to afford upgrades for power you may just have to deal with the car as is. Or start hacking up parts such as gutting the cats, opening the air box... No money generates little power.
