How fast is a ej18 brat..

Hi

 

I was thinking, I have acess to alot of ej18 parts and figured that I should fit one in my brat.

 

How fast is a ej18 powerd brat, compared to other cars is it worth it or should I just fit a weber to my brat instead? The ea81 is running nicely.

 

 

What do you think?

EA81 = 73 hp

EJ18 = 110 hp

EJ22 = 135 hp

 

Those are factory numbers... EJ 18 would definately be an improvement in HP over stock. I know S'Ko is running an EJ18 in his Brat.

Installing the EJ AWD transmission would also be quite an improvement. You'd be able to put all that 110 HP on the ground with 4 wheels instead of spinning the front wheels with 73 HP. I'm sure its been done; someone must have a write-up.

You'll likely be looking at far greater fuel economy...the EJ18s are mega-efficient.

 

Not to mention fuel injection (wait - maybe not...I know nothing about non-US EJ history)...and the more durable transmission...and the EJs like lower RPMs quite well...probably more than the EA.

I think I will start by putting the ej18 in there and connect it to the old transmission.

 

Is it true that the ej auto transmission from a 94 impreza fits between the ej18 and the brat driveshaft? I think i read that somewere.

 

Anyway do you know anyone who has done it, who can tell me how fast it is compeard to like an impreza with the same engine or similar?

Should be a bit faster than an impreza with that engine, because a brat weights less.

With the original brat transmission and rear diff it should be a little slower in acceleration but faster in terms of top speed. Remember that the Brat comes with a 3.900 rear diff and the early EJ18 Imprezas had a 4.111 rear diff. Remember that if, and when, you install the AWD transmission.

Pm S'Ko about his BRAT. He has an EJ18 in it with an original D/r 4spd and it is MUCH better than EA81 power.

What is needen to fit the 5speed transmissiojn from the impreza. It's a 94 impreza wagon with ej18 engine.
