December 3, 200817 yr '97 outback...wipers were frozen to the windshield...when I broke the driver's side loose it started working (forgot the switch was still on) but passenger side is now loose and does not work at all. did I break it...if I leave it sit will it heal itself? (didn't work for the headgaskets)...
December 3, 200817 yr I think maybe the linkage broke. You would have to pull off the plastic trim on front of the windshield, the piece that the wipers go down through. Then you can see whats wrong. Or it could just be that they nut that holds the wiper down actually loosened up a little. Check that first.
December 3, 200817 yr i bet the linkage is fine, i bet the "grooves" of the wiper arm where it attaches are stripped. easy fix. to fix. take off arm retainer nut to the side not working. check the grooved/probably find pieces of metal. get a small piece of screen wire, the metal kind. enough to fit over the wiper stud. place arm back on, tighten nut. the screen wire will cause it to grip again. rock on

December 3, 200817 yr The brooves in the wiper arm are softer then the linakge, and made to give way when somone makes this er um .... "miscalculation" Remove the wiper arm cap and i bet you will see the nut turning. nipper
