Looking for EA81 engine rebuild kit.

Featured Replies

After ordering a TopLine engine rebuild kit (#ZX943843XF) from JCWhitney for my 1984 GL 4WD Hatchback, I disassembled my EA81 engine. Now JCWhitney can't get the rebuild kit, and no other auto parts store can either. I was wondering (and hoping) if someone on this forum could help me locate one for sale. Price from JCW was $240 and included new valves & guides, rings, rod & main bearings and gaskets. Thanks for any assistance!

Stupid dropship whitney I almost bought that kit.

Im getting my kit from a local rebuilder, he said it would not be a problem and it will be a master kit, he wil order it for me once he cleans the holes up and knows what size I will need.

Contacting CCR would be a good idea I did not think about.

I looked everywhere only other kit I found was just the re-ring kit

might be all you need though.

If there's an automotive machine shop in your area they usually can get rebuild stuff for anything. Trust me, I've ordered some REAL odd ball stuff.

CCR is in Denver near the Merchandise Mart area off

Rock Auto bills themselves as "everything your car will ever need." It's not 100% true, since sometimes I (and I'm sure many others here) look for fairly particular items, but they have a lot of stuff, name-brand stuff, usually VERY good prices, and customer service I can't do anything but rave about.

Here's the "cylinder head gasket set" for the EA81 from Felpro ($65):

the clevite main bearing set ($32):

Clevite conn. rod bearing set (about $45):

and a piston ring set ($53):

Another thing to consider is getting parts directly from Subaru. lots of parts for the older Subaru cars are still available. I'll look up some prices and post them.

ok, here are the part numbers and prices for SOA parts for an EA81 engine rebuild. this is all I could think of off the top of my head, and I'm sure I've forgotten some...maybe...I dunno.

prices are MSRP list price, and you will definately get them all cheaper from online Subaru parts dealers (google them then shop around...there are a few), plus shipping. bearings and rings are part numbers for the standard sizes, over- (or under-) sized are available as well.

If you (or anyone really) need any SOA part numbers, feel free to ask, I love to help out. I know that parts department people can be less than helpful with old Subaru parts, basically because compared to new parts, these old ones are a pain for them to look up. some of the old parts aren't kept in warehouses anymore, so we're SOL...but lots of them are. even really odd-ball ones.

I've got parts books for EA81 cars, EA82 cars, and I happen to have '90-'94 Legacy as well.

Do any of you have a part number for Hydraulic lifters for a 86 Brat? Someone gave me a Subaru part number but it was for an XT or something and they are not the same even though it was for an EA81 engine.

From my local machine shop, I buy the ITM full engine gasket set for about $55 great deal! I bought 2 full sets and re-sealed up 2 engines, so I have 2 sets of spare headgaskets and some other stuff.

That's just all the stock engine gaskets/seals, ordering valves, rings, bearings, etc would be extra/separate of course.

The ITM kit covers the ea81 and even the ea81 turbo engines.
