December 17, 200817 yr I wont even go into the dam exon valdiez oil leak ive seamed to acquire but where the hell is this jumpy temp gauge coming from. Air in the system, there is alittle leak. Weve had freezing temps. Someone mentioned frozen t-stat. I dont know if i have exactly a 50/50 mix in my cooling system anymore. Still heats up ok and defrosts ok. Where do i need to go from here:confused:
December 17, 200817 yr For starters, get one of those cheapy coolant testers with the little colored balls in a glass dropper. Shouldn't cost more than two bucks @ your local MalWart. That'll give you a ballpark range on your mix ratio
December 17, 200817 yr Author so if we were to tear into this thing, how long would it take to change out the water pump and whatever freekin oil gasket died
December 17, 200817 yr forever and a day short guess = 2hr., probably longer just about time for me to zzz
December 17, 200817 yr Author Yea hell man i dont know what to do with this thing. I guess start gathering parts and go from there. Waterpump and gaskets. Mickey Mouse gaskets, timeing belt tensioner. yada yada yada. Edited December 17, 200817 yr by The Dude Abides
December 17, 200817 yr describe "jumpy". My dad's wagon would heat up on the guage, then plummet back down. the t-stat was stuck in the open position. so if he came to a stop, the temp rose, then as soon as he started moving again is dropped drastically.
December 17, 200817 yr Author mine seems to be intermitent. It will climb up while im driveing but as its almost to the H part it goes back down to half. Im thinking sticky t stat. Miht as well get some other parts while im at it. Whose got the subaru part number i need. Also im getting a waterpump while im at it. ea82 non turbo ac/car Ben
December 17, 200817 yr Here's a few things that may cause a vary-ing temp gauge. Low coolant Intermitant grounding issue. Fan inop. Head Gasket failure
