January 12, 200917 yr are the air bag TORX bits bolts something special? i saw mention in some other thread about "Security" TORX bits, are those different than regular TORX bits? require a special tool?
January 12, 200917 yr Author tamper proof torx.thanks! hhmmm, so that's a special tool, insert or what? can i get those at any auto parts stores? man the only thing more annoying than torx bolts are special torx bolts...GAHH!!!
January 12, 200917 yr I don't seem to remember the ones on my 95 or 96 being security, just regular. If need to buy them anyway, just get the security ones since they'll work on regulars as well.
January 12, 200917 yr I was at Advanced Auto or Autozone or one of those homogenized parts places and saw them in their tool selection. But I think any hardware store would have them. If not, Mcmaster.com
January 12, 200917 yr the ones at advance are garbage. I had to return mine as defective (the end twisted like a pretzel), and borrowed a friends snap-on. Those suckers are very "torqued" tight.
January 13, 200917 yr the ones at advance are garbage. I had to return mine as defective (the end twisted like a pretzel) Wait, you mean to tell me that the tools sold at Advanced (senility) Auto don't live up to the quality boasted of on the label???
January 13, 200917 yr I got mine(torx set with all the size you can image) on sale for about $10 from Harbor Freight:) http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=91310 But I guess now they lower the price to $5 Good luck thanks! hhmmm, so that's a special tool, insert or what? can i get those at any auto parts stores? man the only thing more annoying than torx bolts are special torx bolts...GAHH!!! January 13, 200917 yr i've got a harbor freight multi-bit set with security torx, snapped the tip of the one that fits those srs computer screws on a 97 legacy... i ended up cutting a groove with a pneumatic cut-off and used my huge craftsman flathead with a wrench on the square shank. i'll be taking the srs computer out of my new-to-me 97 OBS to clean up the soda sludge in that area and i definitely plan on replacing those screws with hex head bolts.
January 13, 200917 yr if you are dealing with these bolts, you need MAC, Snap-On, or Craftsmant grade tools, otherwise, it will snap the tool in half. They are way tight.....
