June 5, 200916 yr The bar on top of the engine. not sure what it's called, it anchors the top of the engine to the firewall near the spare tire, keeps it from pitching back & forth under torque. Anyway on our 85 Brat it snapped... is it safe to drive until we can get it replaced?
June 5, 200916 yr Its the pitching stopper. You already said what it does, I wouldnt drive very far with out it.
June 6, 200916 yr It's a pitching stopper as noted above. If you don't drive like a total moron it should be fine for a while without it as long as your engine and tranny mounts are tight. GD
June 6, 200916 yr I haven't had one in my wagon since the engine swap. 35k miles with an EJ22. couple AutoXs, lots of ice racing, lots of driving like a moron. haven't noticed any negative effects. BUT, there should not be enough force on it to break it. that's what would concern me. definitely check those engine/trans mounts.
June 6, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the replies. The car is relatively new to us and needs a complete tightening up and going over. I AM concerned about what would make it break and will check out those mounts ASAP
