June 19, 200916 yr So, after the siezed pulley/broke belt I have removed the head. I see no obvious damage to the valves, I expected bent and twisted metal The combustion chambers do not hold water, so I assume there is a valve problem. How much do these guys get damaged after impact with the piston? The pistons look good and the cylinders still have visible cross-hatch. Since the head is off and the other will be soon might as well do a valve job :-\ Any input appreciated, Bill
June 19, 200916 yr please post a model, year and engine. There is really no way for certain enginse to bend valves, and some engines always will bend them you have given us no info at all really so we cannot help please post info Edited June 19, 200916 yr by bheinen74
June 19, 200916 yr I was told NAPA on 8th street in CO Springs does the head work for Subaru in town.
June 19, 200916 yr If it wont hold water, the velve stem or valve face is bent, most likely the stem. Either way you need to replace the valve. Damage can be from nothing to looking like a bent mushroom. nipper
June 19, 200916 yr Author I was told NAPA on 8th street in CO Springs does the head work for Subaru in town. Do you mean for Heuberger the big Subie dealer, or for the smaller Subie shops? I was looking at the yellow pages tonight and going to make some calls tomorrow for pricing to some of the Subie specialty shops. Bill
June 19, 200916 yr I thought the EJ22 was non-interference? It probably would be cheapest to get an exchange set of heads from Napa rather than have yours rebuilt.

Getting the drivers side off was a real bear, had to pull the rocker assembly to get it to fit out. Bill
