July 4, 200916 yr Ok, so I can just remove the big nut and pull the steering wheel off of my Brat, but on my EA82 GL I take the big nut off and can not get the thing to move. Is there something different between the two? And, does an EA81 fit on an EA82 car? It looks like it but I wasn't sure.
July 4, 200916 yr The EA82's are a pita to get off, nothing like the EA81's. You will need a gear puller. I used a cheapo on one in a wrecking yard and it just bent the tool all up. Best way to get them off in the wrecking yard is with a hammer

So are they interchangeable between EA81 and EA82?
July 4, 200916 yr No on both counts. If I need to remove one in the JY, I just beat on the end of the shaft till it breaks loose. I'm pretty sure they dont interchange either.

The only real reason I wanted to take mine off is because mine is crooked as all hell. It has been since I've owned it and I just wanted to take it off turn it and put it back on. I just didn't want to beat on it and break it so I couldn't put it back on
July 4, 200916 yr Author You sure the alignment isnt off instead? No she goes straight down the road even when I let go of the wheel, and the tires wear good even with the 2" strut lift. So I'm sure that's all good. I'm pretty sure the PO had something apart at some point and he never was very good at paying attention to detail
July 4, 200916 yr Buy a decent gear puller, they arent that much. Save alot of hassle down the road. Buying tools is a investment. That reasoning has always worked for me :-p

July 4, 200916 yr Not a gear puller- A steering wheel puller. They are a simple little cut-off piece of extruded aluminum with a push bolt through it like a gear puller, but you run a couple bolts through into the steering wheel hub. Yours -should- be 8x1.25, but verify that. The puller kit comes with a variety of bolts, so finding the right one should be fairly easy.
July 4, 200916 yr Yeah - steering wheel puller's are cheap - like $5 to $10. EA81 and EA82 will not interchange. EA81 and Justy are the same though. GD
