January 26, 200422 yr What are your thoughts about these pictures? How about those cracks, Eh? gen 3 too! Jay
January 26, 200422 yr Author I just took the heads off tonight. Haven't cleaned them or anything. the cylinder bores on all the pistons looks good. I'm concerned about the cracks though. Jay
January 26, 200422 yr Don’t worrie about those cracks; it's real common to see those on an EA82. There's also a service bulletin that addresses the crack between the valves. Here’s a pdf copy. http://home.comcast.net/~c.moe/heads.pdf
January 26, 200422 yr Those cracks look fine, I've used worse. Gen 3 heads really only addressed the issue of cracking where the exhaust runners come together. If you are putting new rings in, make sure you give it a fresh hone. Even though you can still see the original cross hatch, it won't have enough bite to properly seat the rings. Good luck.
March 20, 200422 yr Out of curiosity, how many miles were on this block? My EA82T had 167,000 on it, and still had those cross hatching marks...

March 21, 200422 yr Author or around about that. I didn't know what to expect, but the cylinders walls being what they are, I was pleasantly surprised. Makes me feel better about rebuilding the top end. Jay
