August 2, 200916 yr If your 100% sure there are no leaks internally or externally...and your using around 1 quart in about 2k miles..Personally I wouldnt think to much into it..as you mentioned the car has 174,000 miles... Edited August 2, 200916 yr by EVOthis
August 2, 200916 yr are you sure it's not leaking somewhere? has it always been like this or started recently? some leaks won't show themselves right away. oil is coagulating behind timing belt covers or in cracks and crevices before it makes it's way down to the cross member and drips. if it's not leaking i'm with him and wouldn't worry about it. a quart every 2,000 miles is annoying but at the same time if you keep oil in it it'll run another 100,000 miles without getting worse probably.
August 2, 200916 yr it may, certainly be fine for the summer. might make it a bit sluggish starting in the winter if it's really cold, but you probably won't notice. i've used 20w50 in subaru's before and noticed no problems. i'd also install a new Subaru PCV valve to keep pressure in the crankcase down.
August 2, 200916 yr New PCV valve, then wash the egine undernath the car, then watch for drips. Subarus can be really sneeky about leaking oil. nipper
August 2, 200916 yr Author yes your right about the pvc, , already washed underneith no drips , but running amsoil should not cause this, thanks
