August 3, 200916 yr I've seen it done, and funny thing is, it was done by a redneck who hit a deer.. I talked to the guy and complimented him on the nice front end. He said he got the front end from the junkyard and bolted it on..
August 3, 200916 yr No - it will not. All the cyclops grills were for dual headlamp setups - a quad lamp vehicle will not accept the dual lamps and grill without a lot of cutting and modification. The best option is to modify the stock '86 grill and install a center lamp from an '82. '80/'81 are quite a bit different and don't lend themselves to this modification. GD
August 3, 200916 yr Oh whoops I misread it.. What I seen was the Cyclops front end on an 86 wagon.. not hatch
August 4, 200916 yr GD is correct about cuttin up the core support to swap in the two head light set up to allow all the stock '81 parts to fit. I actually think the '80-81 style Third-eye looks better because it has no grill slat bounderies on the eye cover itself like the '82 only version does. You can install the third eye by unbolting the bottom bolt of the vertical center hood-latch-support and cutting off the top of the center support with a grinder and cutting wheel (or hack saw). Then drill out the four bolt holes in the upper core support to match the top part of the third eye assembly. Once it is fully bolted down, carefully test fit and cut a hole in your stock quad headlight grill to allow the third eye to fit. Carfreak82 has done this on his '84 Turbo wagon and it looks good. I little too much chrome IMO, but you can paint some of the chrome black.
