ea82 timing question

Featured Replies

this is for my personal curiousity, but do they make a timing gear set for the ea82? from what ive heard and read the timing belt issues with the ea82 is usually the turn away point for most people, but if they had a timing gear set that little motor would have so much more potential, especially in the forced induction arena.:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

No, and it wouldn't have any more potential than it already has for forced induction - which is almost none. The weak link of the engine is not the timing belts but the head castings, lack of studs, lack of quality head gaskets and poor flowing exhaust ports. The timing belts are merely an annoyance.

Yes, T-belts aren't the real issue with EA82s. Like GD said Head castings on the EA82T are poor (Tend to crack between the ports) Plus the HGs are not the best qulity. I real havn't had any issues with the EA82 as of yet, so I like it..

Anyhoo, I believe if you were gonna try and retro-fit some timing sprockets (pretty impossible) the chain needs oil. The stock covers will not work (It would just be a mess) There was a thread on here somewhere with a discussion about this a while ago..

GD, this is like the 100th time I've heard you ramble off the issues with the EA82. Do you ever get tired of write the same info over and over? Lol but it is hard to search the board for specific info sometimes (Like a Datsun in a Nissan lot, hard to spot) :-p
