How tight

Featured Replies

My newly brakes are working good but i noticed some squeeking and popping on one of the sides. I can wiggle the wheel around alittle. When i pop off the wheel the castle nut is on but i can wiggle it back and forth. Seems the cotter pin is holding it onto the hub mostly. How tight does this need to be

You mean the 36mm castle nut on the end of the axle? I stand on um with a breaker bar and I'm over 200lbs. So,basically,as tight as I can get um. That works for me.

I read 150 ft pounds... but I didn't have a TQ wrench that big so I just tightened really tight..

so far so good... did you recently do the bearings? (fi not the may have failed)

no i recently put on rear disc brakes so i had all that mess apart. Its not squeeking though or rattling. Ill get it tightened on more and yet you know if that was the problem. Its not a constant squeek or rattle i should say. Just sounds like something is loose. Yea it definately doesnt have 150 lbs or torque to it.

Local guy didnt have the socket so i had to buy one. Right hand side took 7 turns to reach 150lbs:eek: Left side took 1 and a half. All is well and nice and smooth. Thanks for the help all.
